Ahhhh Spring … is there anything as pretty? Spring indulges all the senses, sight, touch, smell and sound. And one of the prettiest sounds in Spring is the singing of the birds. So I was thinking, why not invite them into your yard for a little snack? Then you can hear them sing all day. I have the perfect solution to feed the birds by taking something old that you might have thrown away, and I’m turning it into a beautiful backyard decoration that attracts little bird friends to your yard. You know how much I love to repurpose things and this DIY Chandelier Bird Feeder is no exception. Here is how to get started.
You Will Need:
- Liquid nails
- Hot glue gun/glue sticks
- Spray paint in a light green
- Acrylic paint in an assortment of colors (dark green, red, pink, orange)
- Sponge
- Wire cutters
- Old chandelier
- Small ramekins
- Shepherd hook for lawn (Optional: You could hang this from a tree or porch as well)
- OPTIONAL: Sand paper
How-To:
- Disassemble the chandelier. You will need to use wire cutters to remove the wire from the chandelier cup.
- Remove any glass that the chandelier has.
- Since the cups need to be right-side up, determine if you need to turn the chandelier over or use as is.
- Clean the chandelier and use sandpaper if necessary to remove any rust or corrosion.
- Paint the entire chandelier green and set aside to dry.
- Paint the ramekins bright yellow and set aside to dry
- Once all of the items are dry, use liquid nails to set the ramekins in the chandelier cups. Use hot glue to help set up quickly.
- Hang your bird feeder on a shepherd hook (or from a tree or your porch).
- Fill each ramekin with birdseed.
- Enjoy all of your new favorite back yard visitors.
Tips:
- You can paint this any color to go with the décor of your home.
- Not matter what kind of chandelier you have, you can easily turn it into a bird feeder.If the lights don’t go the way you want, turn the entire structure over and you will still have great bones to turn into a bird feeder.
- If the chandelier has crystals hanging, be sure to remove them with your wire cutter.This will scare off the birds or entangle them and we don’t want that!
