DIY Blanket Vest

Paige

My friend Meeks recently bought this cute long, flowy vest and I have to admit, I was a little jelly … it was so cute and is super on trend but you can pay a lot for these cute vests. So, being my DIYin’ self, I broke it down and discovered that these vests are super easy to make so I’m going to show you how to make one for under $10!

Many people like to sew these beauties, but since I’m more of a carpenter rather than a sewer, I found a way to do this without a sewing machine. You can make these in any fabric that you would like, but the ends can get a little out of control. If you use felt or flannel or fleece, the ends tend to stay in better shape.

You Will Need:

  • 2 yards of felt (or whatever fabric you would like) Felt is my favorite fabric since it keeps it’s integrity without sewing
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure
  • Optional: If you want the ends to be bound and tidy, you can sew the edges or use fabric tape and fold over the edges.

How To:

  1. Lay out your fabric on a flat surface.
  2. Create the pattern.
  3. Measure your bust circumference. Draw a circle with this measurement as the circle’s diameter.
  4. Measure for the armholes. Measure across your back from arm to arm to determine how far apart to make the armholes. Determine the armhole depth by measuring from the top of your shoulder to about 3 inches below your armpit.
  5. Voila! Effortlessly chic.
